With spring in sight, it's time to gear up for backyard barbecuing. Check
out Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet, a grill maker that offers a line of sturdy
stainless steel grills.
Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet was born in 1998 when Geoffrey Bullard, head
of Kalamazoo Sheet Metal at the time, stumbled upon original plans drawn
in 1906 by his great-grandfather for a grill.
Bullard is now the chief grill designer, and his products offer innovations
such as Dragon Burners, cast stainless steel burners shaped like a bow
tie that heat up quickly and evenly, and stay hot despite bad weather.
Other features include a side-mounted smoker box; dual-fuel grilling drawers
that allow backyard chefs to use any combination of charcoal, hardwood
or gas; a deep hopper that reduces flare-ups and increases heat; and a
fully framed design that doesn't wobble.
Kalamazoo grills are hand-built of heavy-gauge stainless steel, using
advanced laser-cutting and bending techniques, expert TIG welding and
hand grinding and polishing. Grills can be ordered as built-ins, islands
or free-standing. You can even ask for your grill to be personalized with
engraving on the grilling surface.
Prices range from $3,790 for a chic sculptured charcoal grill to $20,590
for a top-of-the-line dual-fuel grill island. You can also use modular
components to put together your own custom outdoor kitchen.
The company also sells grilling accessories including stainless steel
martini bars, grill covers, racks, grilling rubs and specialty woods like
hickory and mesquite for grilling or smoking.
