Wood, Gas Or Charcoal?

Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet’s Innovative Hybrid Grills Do It All

Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet™ makes what many people consider to be the finest grills available. Esteemed by culinary experts, celebrated chefs and backyard barbecuers alike, the company’s grills bring the gourmet lifestyle outdoors. Grill, sear, smoke, rotisserie, roast, bake and even boil on a Kalamazoo grill. Whether on a gas model or the innovative dual-fuel hybrid grill, by an expert or novice, a Kalamazoo delivers an outdoor cooking experience unlike any other.

There are reasons aplenty for the constant accolades. As if overall performance excellence, custom-built construction and superior firepower weren’t enough, Kalamazoo is noted for a host of innovations.

The company’s most significant advance for backyard grills is the dual-fuel hybrid grill. With one single invention, Kalamazoo ended the charcoal-versus-gas debate among dedicated grillers with a pioneering system that allows for the use of wood, charcoal and gas all on the same grill and all at the same time.

Kalamazoo makes that possible through the use of interchangeable drawers situated above powerful cast stainless steel gas burners. A dual-fuel hybrid grill uses one or two drawers at a time, depending on the size of the grill. There is a drawer type for gas-only grilling and another for charcoal and wood. When using a wood-filled drawer to add a distinctive flavor to foods, grillers can rely solely on the heat from the burning wood; or augment the heat with the gas burner to hold a set temperature longer. Charcoal and wood can be layered together in the drawer as another option. For real convenience, the gas burner can be used to quickly start a wood or charcoal fire, getting the grill ready in less than 10 minutes. Two-drawer models also allow cooks to divide the cooking area into zones, dedicating one half of the grill to charcoal or wood (or both) and the other half to gas. There is another big advantage to the drawer system: stoking charcoal or wood is as easy as opening a drawer and thus never disturbs the food.

Every Kalamazoo grill is designed around the company’s Deep Hopper Cooking System, which positions the burners further from the cooking surface than in other grills. The result is more even heat distribution for direct cooking techniques and better heat circulation for indirect grilling. Cook low and slow at only 200 degrees or sear to perfection at temperatures of more than 800 degrees. The Deep Hopper is engineered to funnel grease away from burners, which virtually eliminates flare-ups. The deep, disposable drip pan also makes clean-up a breeze.

Grilling surfaces can be customized to each buyer’s preference with a combination of laser-cut patterns optimized for cooking meat, fish or vegetables as well as a hibachi-style surface. Want more? Kalamazoo will personalize the surface, laser-cutting logos, initials or other artwork.

Other options include Kalamazoo’s unique offset stainless steel firebox which provides true Southern-style smoker capabilities. Wok-ready side burners and infrared searing burners offer up additional cooking versatility.

The flagship series of the Kalamazoo line is the Kalamazoo 900 Hybrid grills, also the company’s best sellers. These units deliver up to 122,000 BTUs across a cooking surface that is an enormous six square feet. Grilling guru Steven Raichlen says of the Kalamazoo 900, “It’s big, stainless steel and all pure performance.”

Another popular model is the Kalamazoo 450 built-in series, which offers half the cooking surface, yet delivers up to 61,000 BTUs of gas cooking power. Both include an infrared rotisserie cradle system. The Kalamazoo 900 and Kalamazoo 450 series are available in a variety of models and firepower. There are freestanding and built-in versions as well as grill islands with integrated stainless steel cabinetry. Fully framed construction in 304 stainless steel ensures that all Kalamazoo grills are built to stand the test of time.

The company offers a lifetime guarantee on each of its grills, knowing that these products are sure to deliver a lifetime of great cooking results. The company even has been asked to extend its warranty to the next generation; and will do so, betting that the grill will grant as much pleasure to the heir as it did to the original owner.
